A Letter to my Body: Journal Prompt
A complicated love letter to your life suit - the vehicle that takes us everywhere we want to go and, yet, is something we so often struggle to accept.
Grab a pen and paper and a comfy seat. Play some music that you love. Grab a cozy drink and/or snack. And let’s get into some feelings. 1
Let’s talk directly to your body - write down anything and everything you want to say, what you want your body to know… be honest and open with yourself. Here we go:
If you could say anything to your body, what would you say?
What have you and your body been through so far in life?
What have you said to your body in the past that you want to acknowledge?
Have you felt protected by your body? What about betrayed? Cherished? Loved? Cared for?
Have there been times when you were unkind to your body? What did that feel like? What did you need at that time?
Who taught you how to treat your body? Are you still doing those things? Are you wanting to change? How has this relationship changed throughout your life?
What are your memories of your body changing? How do you remember feeling?
What are the parts of your physical self that you love? What are the parts that you are trying to love?
How do you imagine your future with your body? What do you hope for? What would you like to be different?
This is a vulnerable prompt - please take care of yourself during and after writing this. If you need a break, take one. Try to do some deep breathing, grounding, and comforting after you complete. Be present with your emotions if that is available to you. Remember that feelings are temporary - if you feel big emotions right now, it will pass.
