Another edition of things I've read and thoughts I've had that you might enjoy reading about, too

Yet another opportunity to remind yourself that health promotion is not synonymous with losing weight.
A history lesson on anti-queerness and food stereotypes. We, as a world, still have so far to go in accepting human beings and not being pricks.
Steak fries are the worst type of fry, and my petty self loved reading a full article telling me I’m right.
Butter is enjoyable and will not destroy your health as part of an otherwise varied diet. Eat lots of types of fat. Just like everything else.
A bit of fatphobia unnecessarily tossed into this one, but I really loved reading about people’s journey to finding supportive fitness that wasn’t about changing their body. You can really just skip the whole section that starts with “The health implications of being ‘fat but fit’ are frequently debated.” It isn’t the vibe.
A depressing article about all the ways modeling agencies have given up even a shred of an attempt at body diversity on the runway. Protect your peace and skip this one if you need a glimmer of hope today.
Forever will be on my soapbox, reminding the world that exercise is not healthy if you are not well nourished/fueled. Exercising in a deficit is how we get injuries and feel terrible. Exercise requires energy.

Jessica DeFino takes us on a depressing journey through the possibilities of the future if we stay focused on artificial beauty as the defining factor of our goodness as human beings. Resisting beauty standards can actually make a difference in the world!
Well, I’m on a Jessica DeFino kick apparently. Here’s another great article about fighting back against beauty culture and its ties to patriarchy and racism. Resisting beauty standards can STILL actually make a difference in the world!
The irony of the MAHA movement is that they are backing the guy who is doing everything in his power to deregulate the systems in place that actually do keep America healthy. Why do they care about regulating things like fluoride and vaccines, with decades of intensive research showing they don’t cause harm, when we have things like PFAS, which are getting more and more research showing long-lasting harm, having rules rolled back? It is truly mind-boggling.
Thoughts:
As we enter the months of “outside time,” a special reminder that your body counts more things as movement than diet culture does. Gardening, walking, swimming, and many other outdoor activities all get to “count” toward your movement goals.
Would you be interested in a self-guided body image retreat in journal form? As I’ve developed the curriculum for my new group, I’ve been thinking about creating a self-paced version with many of the same reflection questions and activities.
Same question, but different. If I offered the body image group, Fully Myself, virtually, would you be interested? Paid subscribers would get a discount to participate. It would run like the in-person option, a one-hour time commitment for 6 weeks. Lots of body image exploration, discussion, education, etc.
The food that inspired me this month:
I made a salad to bring to a friend’s house (he was making us homemade pizzas!) and was feeling inspired by the spring weather. It had goat cheese, greens, fresh mint, fresh chives, pistachios, dried cranberries, and chopped strawberries. I then made my own creamy balsamic vinaigrette, and it has inspired a salad kick ever since.
