Hello and welcome to the first video post of The Full Life. It is for paid subscribers - although everyone gets a preview of the “abstract”. Health literacy and an ability to sift through junky nutrition information is one of the things I care a lot about, so here I am breaking down a study that holds a whole bunch of very interesting information about health promoting behaviors and body size! I’m excited to share it here and would love to hear what you think.
This was one of the first studies I was introduced to that was in line with Health at Every Size principles. It was in my Human Nutrition: physiology and metabolism course in grad school and it really helped my understanding of humans and nutrition click into place. I had never felt in line with the idea that all humans are somehow in cahoots just avoiding the “easy” behaviors necessary to change their bodies. We now have much more research coming out showing that losing weight is actually crazy hard. We have more and more evidence showing us that pursuing weight loss isn’t benign - it can result in eating disorders, weight cycling, and low self-esteem. With that, this study is really exciting because it shows us what can actually help us improve our health and live longer without having to jump on the hamster wheel of weight loss fads. You’ll have to upgrade to paid to hear me go through the research more in depth :)
